BackgroundYou've probably heard of Caves of Qud by now – the incredible, immersive, Hugo Award-winning1 sci-fi roguelike. It's justly famous for its imaginative setting, beautiful lo-fi visuals, outstanding soundtrack, and bottomless potential for batshit player builds. I've never played anything like it. For me, it's the game of the year, every year. Some while back, a Bluesky user who goes by "mira, vixenzilla" made the following request: i need every single person who worked on caves of qud to make a list of at least 15 books that inspired them Appendix N style while they were working on the game, because i am lazy and want a giant list of books i can read for the rest of my life And because the team behind Caves of Qud are good people, they answered! Three of the game's key staff – Jason Grinblat, Brian Bucklew, and Caelyn Sandel – generously provided lists of the books that cultivated the Qud mindset, aesthetic, and ethos.
