This is a Dutch book, not translated into any other language. The title roughly translates into 'The songbird: about Iran, displacement and a feeling of guilt that never disappears'. It feels awkward giving this disclaimer, but in this day and age it feels necessary. One can read critical texts about Iran without supporting other countries invading Iran, or bombing, murdering and causing so-called regime changes or democracy deliveries. What the US, Israel and their allies are doing, is wrong. Iran is a country with deep-seated problems and massive human rights violations, but I don't support this war. I don't wish for this post or book to be seen as in favor of or for it to be used to justify warmongering actions of the West. Sigh. Voila. Anyway, onto the actual book. This is a memoir about the author's identity and the way she feels in between places. She was born in Iran, but moved to the Netherlands as a young child.
