Pylon of the Month – May 2026

With only a couple of days left this month, I’ve finally got around to selecting a pylon for May, and it’s a small but beautiful asymmetric terminator pylon that got my vote! It was sent in by a fan of the blog who featured previously with a pylon from Cadiz in January 2024. This one is near Limoges and excitingly, it provides electricity to Le Zenith , “une salle de spectacle établie à Limoges qui accueille divers concerts et spectacles”. A bit of investigation on the Open Infrastructure map shows me that this is a 90 kV line, hence the diminutive stature of the pylon. I knew that Limoges was famous for porcelain and enamelwork, but I now know that it’s also where the industrial group Legrand, a specialist in electrical and digital infrastructure, was founded in 1865. The shift from porcelain to electrical infrastructure makes sense if you remember that in the days before plastic, ceramics were excellent insulating materials.
