The Wrecks, Inc., sign that has stood since 1958 in front of what was for a long time an auto wreck yard on old US 52 in Whitestown, Indiana, is being dismantled today. The property is being repurposed as a community park, and it is said that the sign will be restored and installed there. Supporting that assertion, the sign is being dismantled in pieces, rather than being torn down haphazardly. Here’s the sign intact, from a stop I made in 2017. I first photographed the sign in 2011, when two quite battered automobiles still stood on pedestals below the sign. I bought a part from this yard once before it closed. Read the story here.
