Real-world AI test: I tried for the first time using Copilot at work today. In the app, I added a pdf file of a plot plan with clear text and tags. I asked AI for a simple numbered equipment list from it. Copilot failed, saying most text was illegible (wrong) and that there were no tags (wrong) and it only found nine (out of dozens) of items (wrong). It misspelled some of the items it did find, claiming OCR-related problems. But it did correctly read a few items, like radius dimensions, and it knew there were coordinate grid lines. So we are spending billions of dollars and consuming vast natural resources yet this AI literally couldn’t read all the text on a document.
