Sunrise, April 9, 2026I have written before that fall seems to be a long and languid season, while spring is a full-on sprint. Ephemeral is the perfect word to describe so much of my spring experience.Trout lillies!Last week, my favorite ‘spring ephemeral’ flowers were blooming - trout lilies and bluebells. The trout lilies in particular last for a very short time and I am so fortunate to have found a large patch of them along a biking trail in the park. Partly open!I have written about the trout lilies at length before, including the fascinating way in which they propagate. Only about 1% of the trout lily colony blooms each year, so I have to look closely to find the tiny flowers. I’m always so happy not to miss them (as I did last year)! I have no idea how big the bluebell patch really is as I know I’m only seeing the edge of it. I can see that they spread all the way…
