Scribed by Sandre the Giant Released: 3rd May 1976 Hard rock icons Aerosmith are one of music’s biggest bands, with a back catalogue of massive hits, hard rock classics and cross over mega anthems in their 50 year plus career but I think you would struggle to tie their sound into the history of heavy metal on first glance. They don’t have quite as obvious a link as the likes of Led Zeppelin or Kiss, but I think ignoring the formative groovy blues of their early records on what classic heavy metal and doom would become would be a mistake. I first heard Aerosmith in ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ when I was a kid, and their big hits were an entry point for me into rock music in the mid 90s. But it was only in the early 2000s, when my dad bought me ‘Just Push Play’, did I have a taste of the Aerosmith outside of just the big hit singles, and that is when I think I really began to appreciate them.
