Martha Grekos Forces City Of London Council To Address Removing Freedom Of The City From Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor; Scandal Over Golden Lane Leisure Centre Deepens
From a national perspective, the most newsworthy parts of the meeting of the City of London Council on 21/5/26 concerned the removal of the Freedom of the City from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. From a local perspective, the most newsworthy part was what should have been on the agenda – a motion to reopen the Golden Lane Leisure Centre (“GLLC”) – but was not, because of the unlawful decision of the Town Clerk, City Solicitor and Lady Mayor to reject that motion and thus prevent all Council members from debating it. Although the motion was suppressed, the GLLC was mentioned in the “Questions” session of the meeting, and the answers given only deepened the scandal.
