Big tech is eating the net. I’ve abandoned nearly every social media site except for Mastodon. It has its challenges and, unlike Twitter or Facebook in their heyday, it can be difficult to find your people. I’ve found enough kindred souls on Mastodon to make it an enjoyable experience. There are enough of us in the Portland, OR area that we’ve formed a little group, and have occasional in-person meetups. We coordinate on the hashtag #pdxFedi. We’ll discuss when and where to meet, and coordinate through posts using that hashtag. The hashtag isn’t frequently used, so sometimes those discussions are prone to slip by. One time, some months back, I missed the thread where people were planning the next meetup. By the time I caught it, the decision had been made and it was on a date I couldn’t go. That gave me a sad.
