Last year, I started learning how to sew. So far, I haven’t sewn much stuff but every once in a while, I’ll sit down and sew something. The things I’ve made aren’t anything extraordinary, they’re mostly small easy to assemble and cut things that I can finish in a day. But while learning how to sew and more things about how fabric is used, I started to develop a habit of noticing everything around me that’s sewn together. From everyday clothes to bags and other household items that you’d not expect to be sewn (like dog leashes). Daily life puts most things in the mundane category no matter how interesting they are because we become accustomed to their existence. There’s a sort of sadness to this experience, the absence of noticing the changes from yesterday’s leaves to today’s. I’m writing to note that I noticed some things but they were fleeting so now I post this without them included.
