Three months ago we noted a reference to the City and Guilds (C&G) sell off scandal during a meeting of the General Purposes Committee of Aldermen – and added a footnote on it here. The scandal hasn’t gone away but as what we quoted from the council meeting illustrates, our local authority has attempted to keep its discussions of the matter private. Last month The Guardian ran a story about the ongoing C&G scandal. Fee hikes, big bonuses, then bosses exit: the curious case of City & Guilds privatisation. That said, it’s a pity The Guardian has yet to delve into the involvement of the City of London council and its livery companies on the C&G board. The City council’s role did not include monitoring C&G commercial activities but members must have known about the privatisation plan. Apparently nobody…
