I have to hand it to Laura, personable owner of The 5th Wave Espresso & Tea Bar: she created her business from scratch, survived a move from Queen Street to University Avenue, and, after her less-than-optimal space on University became untenable, has now resurfaced in what might turn out to be her best resting place yet, inside the Red Island Cider tap room on Longworth Avenue. It’s such a perfect match: The 5th Wave has always been a morning business, Red Island Cider has always been an afternoon business, so it lets a space that would otherwise be unused for half the day find a new use, it allows each business to promote the other, and it bolsters the community hub that Red Island has always sought to be.I enjoyed a nitro cold brew at the bar this afternoon; it’s powering me through my afternoon.
