The other day I posted about how you can no longer use Reddit on a phone without downloading their app. Several people wrote in to tell me about libreddit, a great frontend for Reddit that bypasses the paywall (and happens to have no ads/tracking too).1 The best libreddit instance I’ve found is catsarch.com’s redlib, accessed at redlib.catsarch.com. I got sick of trying to copy finicky URLs so I made a little shortcut for iOS that opens any Reddit URL in redlib. You can access it here. Now, when you encounter a Reddit link, just hit the iOS share button and click “No Reddit App.” It’ll redirect you to the same page in redlib. To make the shortcut easily accessible, click “edit actions” in the share menu. iOS shortcuts are an inelegant solution (on desktop there exist many extensions to redirect automatically), but adding friction to social media usage is probably a good thing, so in some ways this is ideal. it’s not literally a paywall, but I’m going to keep calling it that.↩
