In 1962, in the Mediterranean Sea, the Italian training ship Amerigo Vespucci was hailed by the USS Independence, an American aircraft carrier, which then signaled: "You are the most beautiful ship in the world." I agree wholeheartedly. I've never seen a more beautiful ship. The Amerigo Vespucci is like nothing like most modern ships today, and while I probably can't appreciate marine vessels the same way others can, I would call her a work of art. In 2022, over half a century later, the Amerigo Vespucci again sailed past another American aircraft carrier, the USS George H.W. Bush. The carrier signaled to the Italian ship and declared: "You are still, after 60 years, the most beautiful ship in the world." I love the interactions between these ships, and how the Amerigo Vespucci impresses everyone who sees her. I hope to one day see her myself in person, even if just a glimpse from afar. She has been in my mind for the better part of three days and I figured I'd share. ⛵ Reply by email…
