From a site visit to an old mansion upstate, a weird detail in the basement: It took a minute to place what was going on in this room. Those are sections of terra cotta flu liner set in mass concrete. That is not the way to ordinarily build anything, but I’ll admit it makes a nice set of bottle racks for a wine cellar.
