When I walked the neighborhood, a roundish pale blue shape stood out in the wood mulch pathway between an evergreen shrub and blackberry bush. When I stopped, it looked like a small blue American robin egg. And it appeared to be fully intact. I was surprised! I’ve seen many robin eggs on the ground. And all have been cracked open and empty. This was the first time I’d seen a fully formed robin egg outside of a nest. How could it have fallen to the ground, without breaking open or cracking? But if you look more closely, you’ll notice what appears to be some cracks in the egg shell. Not completely through the shell. We’ve had strong winds over the past couple days. And one possibility is the egg may have been blown out of a nearby nest. After spending time peering above through branches of silver maple and crabapple trees, I couldn’t find any nests and left the egg aloneThe post Photo of the Week: American Robin Egg first appeared on Lireo Designs.
