Did I say iPad only? Wow, that didn’t take long! Just days ago, I posted about using only my iPad for the past three months. Now I’m using my PC laptop. What timing!? If only I hadn’t posted that post… Anyways, it’s for a special archiving project, moving the past into the present. I had to dig out a stand-alone DVD-RW device because my laptop doesn’t have one built-in. Haven’t had to use one of these in forever. The project underway is copying 100 DVD-Rs of archived video data to an external 2TB HDD. The data is from old 8mm, Hi-8, and Mini DV tapes used with camcorders I owned well over 20 years ago. I’ve taken a few short trips down memory lane while verifying the data was transferred. ☺️ I didn’t even think about trying to use the DVD writer with my base iPad’s slow USB-C port, which would have required an adapter or port hub anyways. My gaming laptop has plenty of ports and power to perform this project. That’s a lot of discs. The impetus for this project is minimalism. I’ve held…
