We’re onto the third instalment of my Commodore 250466 series. In the first post I explained how and why I bought the last C64 longboard, and in the second I explored the board in more detail and confirmed it worked! Today, it’s time to install this beautiful piece of mid-1980s 8-bit computing into my empty breadbin: This is the case and keyboard for an unusual Commodore 64 variant sold by the discount supermarket chain Aldi in Germany during the mid-1980s (either Süd or Nord, not sure). They were notable for pairing a classic breadbin case with a beige keyboard that would later be fitted to early Commodore 64C machines. Unlike the later 64G, Argentine Drean 64, and later Commodore 64Cs, this keyboard retains the PETSCII characters on the front of the keycaps, rather than incorporating them onto the top. The result is rather pleasing in my opinion, which is the only opinion I have. But back to the 250466 motherboard. My first challenge was determining how to affix it to the case. The…
