Yesterday, I reset Max's old tablet and decided to repurpose it as my secondary reading device. The Kindle isn't really suited for reading comics, regardless of how Amazon positions it. Since it had been a while since I read comics, I decided to pick a Batman story. I picked up the Absolute Batman series since it offered a new take on the mythos like the Elseworlds stories that I loved and missed. This first volume, *[The Zoo](https://www.dc.com/graphic-novels/absolute-batman-2024/absolute-batman-vol-1-the-zoo)*, is dark and brutal. Gone are the slick and technological vibe of the traditional Batman stories; instead we have a working class vigilante fighting against a rich and powerful anarchist. Also gone is the Rogue's gallery and instead we have those familiar faces in newer roles. I liked this new take as the older storylines were getting stale. It's refreshing to see Batman stripped down like this. It reminds me why I fell in love with the character in the first place. If this isβ¦
