Found out this morning that Apple is ending support for apps that are built for Intel Macs with macOS 28. I also found out that, as far as I can tell, Blizzard has been silent when asked by users if the Battle.net app and games will be updated for Apple silicon. Today I got a settings notification when I opened the Battle.net app, telling me that “a future release” of macOS will not support the app, and that I need to install the Apple silicon version. However, that version does not exist, and there is apparently no word on if or when one will be released, leading to some speculation that Blizzard is quietly planning to sunset support for gaming on macOS. After recently playing both Mists of Pandaria Classic and Classic Anniversary for a while, I decided a couple of months ago that my home is in Classic Era, because the “seasonal” cadence of progressive Classic is not the slow-leveling environment in which I would like to play.
