While I was not very close to my maternal uncle because I typically only saw him during Lunar New Year — the last time I saw him alive was indeed during this year's Lunar New Year — his passing made him the first relative from my parents' generation I knew who died (all my grandparents are already dead). To attend my maternal uncle's funeral, my parents and I went to my parents' hometown on May 18th, and stayed in one of my paternal uncles' house for one night.
