Princo is a brand which might be quite divisive. On the one hand, they aimed to bring affordable high-quality recordable optical media to the market. But on the other hand, many of their recordable discs failed rapidly due to poor dye and manufacturing quality that made them vulnerable to fading and disc rot, exacerbated by poor storage. I was once lured to their discs because of low prices and good initial burn quality, only to be later burned by failures (although some discs still did somehow survive, or at least partially). The Princo brand quickly fell from grace and while they did make some 8x media, we didn’t see them being available locally. Eventually the brand disappeared and sometimes seemed to reappear in listings from China, but likely aren’t the same “real” Princo. Pepst gave me a new surprise to investigate – as part of our media exchange, he managed to dig out a Princo DVD-RW. This was a type of disc I didn’t even knew Princo ever made. Even better, it was still new…
