A while ago, we got a notice from the local power company that there was a planned outage coming for the area. They planned to turn the power off for our apartment from about 7:30am to 4:30pm in order to do maintanence on the power line. That’s…inconvenient! It’s obviously not only disruptive to folks who work at home (like myself) but also sucks for trying to keep food cold, flip light switches, cook meals, run fans to fight the heat, run medical devices that need an outlet, and so much more. I think most of us would elect to, y’know, not lose electricity if possible. Bold statement. That said, if I’m being totally honest, there’s a small part of me that delights in things like this, so long as it doesn’t completely screw up my plans for the day. The internet going out is an opportunity to find other ways to entertain myself, or an opportunity to go out to the library or a co-working space for a change of scenery. The power going out is an opportunity to force myself to step away…
