Since getting my AYANEO Pocket Air Mini, I’ve dug myself further and further into the Android emulation rabbit hole, specifically with frontends - which are basically a pretty UI that makes sorting and selecting a game easy as pie. This has all been a learning experience for me, but thankfully each one is pretty easy to install, imports your games somewhat painlessly, and allows for quite a bit of customization. While my device came pre-installed with AYANEO’s proprietary frontend, AYASpace, it’s incredibly counter-intuitive and frustrating to work with. It will automatically scan for new games and systems and import them, but getting art and metadata for each game is too much of a hassle, so I ditched it. I’ve taste-tested the big three emulation frontends for Android (ES-DE, Daijisho, and Beacon) and decided to throw together a post detailing the pros and cons of each one for anyone else who's on the fence or just doesn't know.
