A long time ago, I disabled some specific animations in Windows that I found annoying. One of those was menu animations. I left those animation settings alone for a long time without any complaints. But, when I updated to Windows 11, I noticed that my preferences were starting to be ignored. The first place I noticed that they were being ignored was in the new Notepad app. Both the main menu and the context menu were animating, despite me previously having turned menu animations off. It’s probably relevant that the new Settings app only has a single setting that turns animation effects on or off. But the specific setting for menus that I previously used, ‘Fade or slide menus into view’, still exists.
