On Friday night my partner and I joined some friends at the nearby Orion Amphitheater↗ to see CAKE↗. It was a really fun, chill time - and quite a bit different from the shows we usually attend↗. You might be surprised to learn that this show seemed to attract a different crowd than our typical metal shows, but it's true. There were a lot more older and younger people in attendance, and they dressed more colorfully than we're used to. We saw a bunch of couples our age who had brought their teenagers which didn't make us feel old at all. There were a lot of different types of people in the audience, but (as vocalist John McCrea pointed out) we all clearly shared great taste in music. CAKE took the stage promptly at the ticketed time (no opening acts, which was kind of weird/nice), and I quickly realized that they were actually playing everything live.
