It’s been almost four years since my wife and I moved to Rhode Island. I spent the first 38 years of my life in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia, and I’ve enjoyed the challenge of moving to an entirely new part of the US. I’m sharing what I’ve learned here, with the caveat that this guide is just a start and will be updated over time. Nature Foods Politics People and culture 1. Nature Weather We have all four seasons here! Summer is absolutely glorious. Long days, hot but not humid, and the evenings cool down just right. Plan to welcome many visitors during the summer. Winter is usually not that bad (except for this year, which was the worst I have ever seen in my life - and also the worst a bunch of Rhode Islanders have seen in their lives, FWIW). Buy a nice winter coat that covers your ass and invest in comfy, warm waterproof boots (I have fleece lined Blundstones that I wear for 6 months of every year). Invest in moisture-wicking fabrics like Smartwool for base layers…
