PSA: Clean Your Fridge’s Refrigeration Coils/Vents, or Replace an Older Fridge with a Newer/Smaller Fridge

I’ve been living at my Dad’s for a few years now, but there’s been something that’s been bothering me for a while. Even though our energy bills look great – between the two of us, we’re averaging 8kWh or less per day (using gas for hot water) which is less than a one-person household average. But there’s always been something troubling me, as a very perceptive person. A Niggling Thought I’m sitting at the dinner table, having dinner, watching the news with my Father and all seems well. During a quiet break, I can hear the hum of the refrigerator in the background. It’s noticeable, but it sounds the same way as it usually does. But night after night … I recall almost never hearing the hum stop. In fact, even during the mornings, I’ve often heard it running for quite a long period, rarely getting a break. The duty cycle seemed a bit high for my liking, as if the fridge was struggling. While I mentioned this to my Dad, he’d rather not trouble himself with anything until something breaks.…
