Back in 2016 my wife and I spent Memorial Day weekend in Walla Walla in eastern Washington. We both wanted to explore that area for a while and the long weekend at the beginning of summer was the perfect occasion. We started at Palouse Falls where we camped for one night then spent rest of the trip in downtown Walla Walla. One of the places I really wanted to see and which became the highlight of the trip was Steptoe Butte. The butte is about 2 hours north from Walla Walla. We decided to target early evening to catch some softer light without having to wake up very early to catch the sunrise. Road up to the top is narrow and spirals around the butte. Plenty of photographers already parked along the side when I got there but still plenty of space to set up. The butte sticks up about 1000 feet above the farmland and from the top the Palouse rolls all the way to the horizon. No mountains, no trees blocking anything - just endless rolling hills in every direction.Light got really good…
