Just Say You Can’t Afford It

There’s nothing novel about not having nice things. “I don’t have a Rolex.” “I don’t wear designer.” “You’ve got that many watches? What a waste.” Nice. But let’s be honest. That’s not a philosophy. That’s a situation. Most people don’t have those things because they can’t afford them. Not because they’ve taken some high ground. And that’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with not being able to afford something. But dressing it up like it’s some enlightened decision? That’s where it gets boring. “I’d rather invest it or buy property” Yawn.
