Let’s talk about Rolling Thunder. No, not the movie. Not the Bob Dylan tour thing either. And not the roller coaster or the Vietnam bombing campaign. Rolling Thunder the 1986 video game by NAMCO! (The first one, not the sequels.) I went in nearly blind, having only seen a clip or two of the game. Retrogaming isn’t really my thing, but I’m beginning to find certain non-shmup arcade games interesting. This is one of them. If someone handed you a controller and told you to play this game, you would think it has something to do with a cult or a clan (particularly one with a “K”). Everything starts off at nice, acceptable pace. You, the hero spy (we assume), must walk, duck, and jump your way through warehouses, caves, and secret bases. You have your weapons, a pistol and a machine gun, that you need to reload behind some doors. The first moments seem slow and straightforward. Clare Edgeley, of Computer & Video Games, thought so too2: The game is rather slow and I really wouldn’t recommend…
