Well, I'm back to doing job applications where I need to prepare everything is specified Microsoft Word™ formats.1 Somehow, handling Word is somehow worse that the writing itself. On the times of Windows XP, the "What You See Is What You Get" paradigm still worked. Now it just doesn't---what you see is kind of like what you get. You can never be sure if the page breaks in the .docx file are real page breaks or if the app just feels like faking a break. To see the real output, you need to at least print it to pdf. You also get the bonus of copy/pasting information might change the formatting in mysterious ways. For example, when pasting DOIs, some change the formatting of the listings and some not. To be honest, I'm kind of baffled that pasting things can change the indentation. Bonus: I copying and reclassifying all my publications for each job application is also suffering.
