I’ve used Google Workspace for email on my own domain for years. I used it because it was easy, and I’d used Gmail for years on a non-custom domain. Given the growing geopolitical tensions and privacy concerns with things hosted in the US, I’m moving to a new provider. I thought I’d brain-dump my experience with moving to a new provider. It’s not an exhaustive guide or comparison across providers, it’s just a quick summary of me writing “hey everyone, I’m using one less Google service, look at me, aren’t I good?” It also means I haven’t left it more than 12 months since my last blog post, and therefore I’m not a complete slacker. 2025 was wild and barely surviving a chaotic year was the aim there. Disclaimer I still have a Gmail account, though it’s not used for my regular day-to-day email.
