a lamentation (NaPoWriMo #22) a mother’s cry and afather’s protest areblending with themorning wind.safety is a falsehoodbrewing in thebasements of our ancestors, and many of us havelost the rights to it. I’m tired of waking up to death—toheartache and pain, and the constant cycle shoved uponus so hard and heavy that a singlebreath has risen in value. fighting used to besafe—winner, loser, playgroundshenanigans that stayed in theplayground or begansharply at 3 o’clockand was over by 3:30… an after-school special wecould only record with our eyes and minds. now, there are gun-toting, parentless children fighting forattention on every corner, gaining attention in ways wehaven’t approved. and the cost of whatthey seek is priceless…a life for a life…no refund. Winston-Salem Park Shooting, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 2 Dead, 7 injured. *Originally published on Substack Notes.
