I’ve lived in the Indianapolis area for 32 years, long enough to watch things grow, peak, and decline. This center is a good example. It was never high end — it wasn’t meant to be. A Sears Hardware anchored one end, a liquor store the other. In between were the usuals: CVS, a diner, a dry cleaner. There was also the Cinema Grill, an early theater-restaurant. It felt like the most ambitious thing the center ever tried. I don’t remember exactly when it closed, but the most recent Yelp reviews are from 2012. Sears Hardware became Ace Hardware. Ace closed, and the space became a Jo Ann Fabrics. When that chain went under, the space went dark again. It’s vacant still. It’s not a wasteland. The CVS still fills our prescriptions. The diner still turns out a good late breakfast after church. The dry cleaner still presses my…
