The world’s best, most portable OS turned 33 this week. 🧡 I know I’m preaching to the choir here, but I cannot express how much I enjoy NetBSD. Linux gets the job done at work, and FreeBSD is excellent with its tooling and features. But in a way that’s intangible and hard to describe, I feel at home when I boot and log into NetBSD. It’s that trusted friend that’s been there for years, whether its booting on an old PowerPC Apple, or a modern Pi. Being involved in the NetBSD community has also been among the most rewarding experiences of my life. I apologise that I can’t recall your names (it’s a thing with me), but I remember two of you coming up to me after a day at an AsiaBSDCon asking if I needed help with my devpubd(8) work, and we ended up talking through how it worked over dinner. It was a lot of fun. The next iteration of my Retro Corner will be including more notes on the software and drivers I use on each machine.
