This week saw the official announcement that Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, will step down this year, to be followed by hardware leader, John Ternus. Naturally, this has caused retrospection and projections in the tech industry. So it prompted me to have a think about it. I think it’s all good. The timing is good. And the incoming CEO is good. And I think Apple’s future is looking pretty good overall. First, Apple hardware is in a great place. Maybe the only improvements would be some simplification, fewer product iterations. For example, the iPad lineup with its accessories can likely be streamlined (e.g. one Pencil for all). And there are minor hardware items I’d like to see addressed. I wish the HomePod mini was wireless with a rechargeable battery like most bluetooth portable speakers. The big HomePod can keep the power cable; the mini should cut it. Or make a new mobile speaker to pair with iPhone or Apple Watch as easily as AirPods. There are other small things like this across Apple…
