Over the years we’ve read about many different kinds of mothers, both real and imagined. How did Jamilah Lemieux’s thoughts on Black single motherhood put some of the other stories we’ve read into context? Does reading about mothers make you more empathetic toward your own mother/mothers in your life? Does it sometimes make you jealous? Why? Are there any fictional mothers you’ve learned from in your own readings? Who are the women in your life who show the true potential of maternal care/motherhood? Whether you are or aren’t a parent, how do you treat the children you come in contact with? What do you think parents owe their children, and do you think children owe them anything in return?
