My Fantastic Four-ay: Interregnum.

Aside from some time constraints and other topics popping up, I had this brief pause in this series of posts to give myself an opportunity to sort of consider what I’m doing here. The reason I started writing these is because I recently read (or reread) a lot of the last 30 years’ worth of Fantastic Four, starting around the time Tom DeFalco and Paul Ryan were doing the book in the early ’90s. I didn’t read every issue…I skipped some of the runs I knew well (like the Walt Simonson issues and the Mark Waid/Mike Weiringo run), and read for the first time the aforementioned DeFalco/Ryan stories, and the suyrprisingly brief J. Michael Straczynski run, and the Dwayne McDuffie issues, and so on. I also reread the issues I bought and read at the time, but hadn’t revisited in the years since, like the Jonathan Hickman/Matt Fraction consecutive runs of more recent years. It was nice to be reminded of those. I’m also reading some of these storylines way out of order. I’m currently in the midst…
