When I got my Pixel 8, one of the things I remember is that it was actually pleasant to use in a dark room. By that, I mean the minimum screen brightness was dim enough to not hurt my eyes. Alas, that is no more. Something, at some point, has changed. Maybe I should use the extra dim feature? Well, that also does virtually nothing at minimum brightness. It’s now a largely useless feature, ironically stated to be an accessibility feature. Here’s how it’s described on my phone: Extra dim can be helpful when: Your phone’s default minimum brightness is still too bright You’re using your phone in dark situations, like at night or in a dark room before bed If only that were true.
