Bluesky was down for a fair chunk of one day last week, at any rate round here, with rumours that this was down to them using GenAI to write code for the site. Now that it’s back, the first two things that caught my eye next morning were both GenAI-related; a story about a UK government minister demanding that people should get with the programme and embrace the sloppy autocorrect future, and the most hilarious bit of terrible Thucydides-related art yet (including the images I produced as an experiment in the early days of the technology, “young hot Thucydides on a beach” and the like). I have so many questions… Why are the athletes not exercising in the nude? What’s going on with the spears? What are the textbooks (textscrolls?) that all the ‘scholars’ have on their laps, and what is the map in the middle of the group? Why, in what is obviously a time of peace, is someone wandering round in full hoplite panoply? Why aren’t they exercising in a proper gymnasium – and where does…
