Part of my photographic practice is curating photos and choosing the ones that speak to me. My goal is to make photos that align strongly with the photographic vision I have before pressing the shutter button, but often enough a photo just doesn’t work the way I want - Sometimes less impressive than I imagine it will be, sometimes technical settings are off and I make a mistake through haste, and sometimes the photo just doesn’t do a subject justice and no amount of editing can fix it. In the latter case, it's wise to accept this and skip the edit. Finding the keepers is part of the journey of self-discovery and finding out who we are as photographers. We develop taste over time, and this is what informs our photos. We lean into visual and emotional themes and genres to find out what we like, get to know different lighting conditions, learn more about composition and editing, and learn the limits of our cameras.
