Something that fascinates me about the internet as a space is, obviously, how different people’s experiences can be. One way it tends to differ, which has been standing out to me lately, is the idea of “positivity” and “negativity” in the tone of discussion. For some people, they feel surrounded by constant toxic positivity. People constantly going to bat for major corporations, people afraid to ever rock the boat or criticize things, people constantly trying to suck up to each other and pander to their audience in a way that feels condescending. For other people, it’s the opposite. They feel bombarded by constant ragebait, constant toxic anger and mockery. They feel that everything is filtered through anger and complaints because they get better clicks, they let the person doing the complaining be snarky and holier-than-thou. It’s a never-ending parade of people dunking on stuff and hating on everything, never willing to show a sincere moment of praise or vulnerability. So who’s…
