In the spirit of seasonal home organizing, here are several dependency updates I’ve made to this site since my last refactor follow-up (most quite recently). Fonts After years of embedding my heading fonts via Adobe, I finally started licensing Freight Sans for self-hosting. I subset the fonts with Glyphhanger to reduce their size to about what they were before… though I bet I could get them even smaller if I spent more time scrutinizing each and every character! This site already had an A+ rating from the Website Carbon Calculator, but this change in particular seemed to improve my Lighthouse score. Lingering Embeds I’d already replaced video embeds with web components, but I decided to track down any other lingering <script> or <iframe> elements (mostly old slide deck embeds) and either remove them or replace them with outbound links instead. Animated Morph The hover effect on my face in the primary navigation relies on an SVG <path> element (my left eye) morphing between two sets…
