I’m back from the Assynt and Coigach area of the far northwest of the Scottish Highlands. An area I’ve dreamed of exploring for over decade. And words alone cannot describe the scenes, sights, and senses I experienced.

Last week, two mornings in a row as the sun came up I saw neighboring houses with white roofs, a sure sign of frost. The weather news said it was a killing frost that meant the end of the growing season. Later that morning I was stacking more wood for my daughter and saw that most of her vegetable and flower gardens were finished. Another cracking autumn day at Fromebridge with the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. Last scheduled day in the small end meadow that isn’t cattle grazed. We’ve been doing this for a few weeks now, and it was almost done. The grass was pretty long so needed a couple of cuts to get it short enough for the winter. The last vacation made me want a better camera than the one in my phone. Especially one with a telephoto lens, so I could take pictures of animals from a safe distance.
